Located in the heart of Denton's walkable Hickory Street restaurant district, this renovation transformed a long neglected building into a new destination for Smithers Smokehouse.
The design preserves the existing CMU structure and metal car shed while introducing a contemporary identity rooted in the character of the district. Corrugated profiles reference the iconic Morrison Milling building visible nearby, while the signage, branding, and material palette draw inspiration from the history of Hickory Street. New storefront openings, walk up ordering windows, dedicated to go service, outdoor dining, and a patio with a fireplace activate the street and strengthen the pedestrian experience.
The renovation required extensive coordination between architecture, interiors, and operations. Commercial kitchen equipment, the smoker enclosure, lighting, furnishings, branding, signage, and interior detailing were carefully integrated to create a cohesive guest experience while supporting the day to day function of the restaurant. The result is a thoughtful adaptive reuse project that gives new life to an overlooked building while contributing to the continued evolution of Denton's historic core.
